Abstract

. RNA alternative splicing is related to the gene expression pattern, embryonic development and diseases. The Cwf15/Cwc15 protein family is known to associate with the spliceosome. The Cwc15 gene is conserved in a wide range of species; however, the studies in mammals on the expression and biological function of Cwc15 have not fully reported. We showed that mED1, a Cwc15 ortholog, was expressed during the mouse early embryonic development. The mED1 transcription increased from the morula stage to organogenesis and the mED1 expression was mainly observed in ICM of the 6.5-dpc embryo as determined by whole-mount in situ hybridization. mED1 was highly expressed in the derivative structures of the neural folds at 8.5-dpc and in the head, branchial arch, and somites at 10.5-dpc embryos. The localization of the mED1-GFP fusion protein at the nucleus validated a predicted nuclear localization sequence (NLS) of mED1. These findings described the mED1 expression pattern during the embryonic development.
